CALCULATE THE ALCOHOL PERCENTAGE OF YOUR BEER
Use your hydrometer (FIG. 1.0) to measure the specific gravity of your beer while you are making it. Two readings are needed to calculate the alcohol percentage of your beer. Enter these readings into the brewer's calculator below and click calculate for the alcohol percentage in your final bottled beer.
STEP 1 - ORIGINAL GRAVITY READING
Input the original gravity (OG, the gravity of the wort in the fermenter before fermentation started), for example 1040.
STEP 2 - PRESENT GRAVITY READING
Input the present gravity (PG, the gravity in the fermenter at the end of fermentation), for example 1005.
STEP 3 - CALCULATE ALCOHOL VOLUME
Press the calculate button. The alcohol (% by volume) in the bottle after secondary fermentation is calculated to the nearest 0.1%.
